Dr. Amanda Edwards is a highly respected sports psychologist whose career centers on supporting athlete mental health, performance, and personal development. She is a consultant, therapist, speaker, author, and educator who combines clinical training with firsthand experience as a competitive athlete.
Originally from Williamsville, New York, Dr. Edwards grew up playing basketball, soccer, track, and cross-country. In high school, she focused on soccer, competing for her school, a premier Rochester Rhinos travel team, and the Olympic Development Program. A highly recruited player, she suffered an ACL tear before her senior year but still accepted a soccer scholarship to the University of Minnesota.
As a Golden Gopher, she competed in Division I athletics while earning a psychology degree and receiving Big Ten academic honors each semester. Her experiences in high-level collegiate sport inspired her advanced study of athlete performance and well-being. She earned a master’s degree in sports and exercise psychology from Florida State University, focusing on peak performance and team cohesion, then completed her PhD in Counseling Psychology at Texas Tech University.
Dr. Edwards later became the first embedded clinical sports psychologist for University at Buffalo athletics. Since opening her Williamsville private practice in 2020, she has worked with the Buffalo Sabres, Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Bandits, and athletes throughout her community.
